Belang van vetten in onze voeding

Wanneer we willen vermageren, is het weglaten van de zichtbare vetten vaak het eerste waar we aan denken. We laten de smeerstof op ons brood weg en bakken met een bakvel of een antikleefpan.
Echter, ons lichaam heeft een bepaalde hoeveelheid vet nodig. Vetten zijn niet alleen een energiebron, ze bevatten ook vitamine A en D alsook essentiële vetzuren die zorgen voor bepaalde lichaamsfuncties. Vetten ins onze voeding zorgen ook voor een goede darmwerking. Bovendien geeft het vetweefsel in ons lichaam ook bescherming tegen de kou.
We hebben dagelijks een hoeveelheid zichtbaar vet nodig. Van belang is wel een goede keuze te maken tussen verzadigd –en onverzadigd vet. Verzadigd vet doet de cholesterol stijgen. Verzadigd vet kan je herkennen doordat het op kamertemperatuur gestold is (boter, vaste bak- en braadvetten, hard frituurvet, vetten in vlees en vleeswaren,…). Onverzadigd vet hebben een gunstig effect op de cholesterol en beschermen dus tegen hart- en bloedvaten. Deze zijn vloeibaar op kamertemperatuur (olie, vloeibaar bak- en braadvet, dressings,…).
Het is aldus van groot belang dat men dagelijks een portie zichtbaar vet inschakelt maar er vooral op let dat men een goede keuze maakt qua soort. Een 20g vet/persoon/dag is nodig.
Daarnaast hebben de vetten in vis ook een gunstig effect op hart en bloedvaten. Schakel dus zeker 2x/week vis in, en in het bijzonder ook vette vis (makreel, zalm, haring,…).

Kant en klare maaltijden

In het druk en hectisch leven van vandaag, wordt er al eens gemakkelijk beroep gedaan op kant en klare maaltijden. Het assortiment van dit laatste groeit dan ook dagelijks aan.

Wat de kwaliteit van instantmaaltijden betreft, zit dit meestal wel goed. Wel dient er door de consument rekening te worden gehouden met de houdbaarheidsdatum en de bewaar- en bereidingswijze.

De voedingswaarde van dergelijke maaltijden loopt wel fel uiteen, afhankelijk van de gebruikte ingrediënten. De gemiddelde energie-aanbreng van een kant en klare maaltijd varieert tussen 400-600 Kcal. Bekijk steeds grondig het etiket en kies bij voorkeur voor maaltijden met minder dan 20g vet/portie en neem regelmatig een vismaaltijd.

Een groot knelpunt bij kant en klare maaltijden is enerzijds het hoge zoutgehalte en anderzijds het tekort aan groenten. Voorzie bij een instantmaaltijd altijd wat extra groenten. Rauwkost en diepvriesgroenten vormen bij tijdsdruk een gemakkelijk alternatief. Een stuk fruit als nagerecht geeft ook wat extra vezels, vitaminen en mineralen.

Uiteraard is een kant en klare maaltijd niet bepalend voor een al dan niet gezond en evenwichtig voedingspatroon. Besteed daarom ook steeds voldoende aandacht aan de 2 andere hoofdmaaltijden en leg hierbij de klemtoon op voldoende groenten, fruit, volkorenproducten en aardappelen, spring matig om met je eiwitbron (vlees en vleeswaren, vis, kaas, eieren) en kies voor een gezonde vetstof.

Voldoende water drinken voor een gezonde huid

Dat voldoende water drinken levensnoodzakelijk is, weten we allemaal. We verliezen immers enorm veel vocht via het zweten, urine en ontlasting, dat we dagelijks minimum 1,5L tot 2L water moeten drinken om dit verlies te compenseren.

Water heeft naast het dorstlessend effect ook een zuiveringseffect en is van immens belang voor een goede werking van de nieren.
Maar wist je dat voldoende water drinken er ook voor zorgt dat onze huid soepel blijft en we minder snel rimpels krijgen? Als je dagelijks zo’n 1,5L water drinkt, slaat het bindweefsel in de huid dit op waardoor deze mooi elastisch blijft.

Koffie, thee en alcohol werken dan weer vochtafdrijvend waardoor het effect van het water geneutraliseerd wordt.
Behoud dus zeker een gezond evenwicht tussen de opname van water en dranken zoals koffie, thee en alcohol.
Uiteraard is een mooie huid ook het resultaat van een gezonde, gevarieerde en evenwichtige voeding en voldoende beweging!

Een gezond ontbijt in de praktijk

Voor de samenstelling van een goed ontbijt doen we beroep op de actieve voedingsdriehoek die weergeeft wat je elke dag nodig hebt om gezond te blijven.

°Een drank omdat je lichaam elke dag nood heeft aan 1,5 l vocht : water, koffie, thee.
°Een graanproduct dat zorgt voor de broodnodige energie, vitaminen en mineralen. Brood biedt heel wat variatie in smaken, soorten en vormen zodat je hierin ongetwijfeld je gading kan vinden. Kies bij voorkeur bruine of volkoren broodsoorten omdat zij meer vezels bevatten. Vers knapperig brood is heerlijk, getoast kan ook. Een sneetje brood met toespijs kan je ter afwisseling vervangen door een kommetje ontbijtgranen met melk of yoghurt.
°Een stuk vers fruit als geheel, als beleg, versneden in een kommetje yoghurt of kwark, of een glas ongezoet fruitsap zijn goed voor een gezonde portie vitaminen en vezels. Wie de seizoenen volgt, varieert vanzelf. In de zomer smaken ook schijfjes komkommer, tomaat en radijsjes heerlijk fris op een ontbijtboterham.
°Een zuivelproduct (melk, (drink)yoghurt, kaas) mag ’s morgens niet ontbreken als we weten dat we dagelijks 3 tot 4 glazen melk of melkproduct en 1 tot 2 sneetjes kaas nodig hebben in onze strijd tegen osteoporose. Magere en halfvolle zuivelproducten bevatten evenveel calcium als de volle varianten. Een sneetje kaas als toespijs kan je ter afwisseling vervangen door een sneetje magere vleeswaren en af en toe eens een eitje. Vergeet ten slotte niet dat niet zozeer het brood dik maakt, dan wel het gebruik van te veel beleg op het brood. Eet daarom altijd brood met beleg in plaats van beleg met brood.
